Fitness Focus is faltering....UGH!

Why oh why can't I be a naturally thin person?

My fitness focus is faltering back and forth.  I won't give up, and haven't given up.  I just have moments that are much better than others.

Sometimes the only thing that works is a certain food, at a certain place, at a certain time.

Like today....this morning I ran/walked 6 miles.  Doesn't that give me a great reason to eat my burger at chilis?  (We split the burger, just like last time).
And right now, I really would like to eat chocolate, or maybe a reeses blizzard from Dairy Queen.  We live in the only town in Texas that does not have a DQ.  But drive anywhere outside of town and that is all you can find....go figure!

Well.....all of this talk makes me hungry.

More later!

Fitness Focus Week Two

I am almost to Day 12, and I doing good.  Not perfect, but moving on down the path.

I did go to Mexican on Friday night.  I didn't eat too much....in the grand scheme of things.
Then I ran for one hour on Saturday morning, so about 5 miles of running/walking.
Now that makes a girl:
1.  Hungry
2.  Feel entitled to eat a bit more
3.  Hungry and Justified

So I ate at Chili's, with a compromise.  You see this used to be my Saturday ritual, back in my super running days.
My routine was this.....eat really well all week, do my long run (10, 12, 16 miles?) and then it is Pig Out day.
But the runs got shorter and shorter and then stopped, but the desire to pig out didn't.  hmmmmmm.  What a mystery!!
So my compromise is that now, my husband and I split the hamburger instead of each getting our own.
Then we each have our dinner salad and some fries.

So then Sunday I felt an omellete coming on, while sitting in church.  This often means Denny's, which really means that I don't get an omellete, but I just like to say it that way.  So there you have it.

Now I am into week #2, and I went running again today....my 2 mile loop and didn't feel like I was going to die.  And I have been doing well on my eating this week.  It is the weekends that seem to keep coming around.

So I will keep you posted.  I am meeting my gals at the park again to run, so that is good!

What about you?  What are you working on?  What is your goal for 28 days???

With purpose,

Day 5- Lost 5 lbs!

Howdy doody!

I am happy to report that I have lost 5 lbs since I restarted my weight loss plan.  It would have been much more, if I had skipped the eating frenzy over the 4th of July.
Oh well.

Day 5 of the Fitness Focus plan.  I decided that today was the day that I would start running again.  Now I am "a runner", and I tell people that I have run 4 marathons, which I have......but sometimes I just talk about running more that I actually run.  Lately I have been a walker, which is better than a couch sitter, but I am working on being a runner again.  Well today was the day.....and it was not that great of an experience.  I did my one mile out, and one mile back.  Sometimes you think that you are fine, until a few hours later when you have a crazy dehydration headache come on.  I know because I have had this lovely experience before.   I don't recommend it.  I do recommend running, and along with it, drinking enough water before and after.

So after some "headache releiving tablets", that were thankfully supplied by my fantastic intern/assistant/coach-in-training Kristal, I was all better and went on  with my scheduled appointments.  So yipppeee for me!  I am running and I doing well on my fitness focus.  One day at a time!

But now the Mexican is starting to call my name......Don Jose's.  My husband and I seem to have to go there on Friday night and tomorrow is Friday.
We have mapped out a plan for me of some pre-eating of vegetables in order for me not to be a starving, crazed lunatic by the time they place the heaping mound of chips, salsa, and FREE queso in front of us.

So I would ask you to PRAY FOR ME!

I will let you know how it goes......

With purpose, and joy,

Diane

28 Days of Fitness Focus

Here I am again!
I know....the last time was in 2007 so you can scold me in many ways.
I did post on my Character Makeover Blog during January, February, and March.
But I have been MIA from my posting here....so I apologize.

So the new scoop!!

Today is day 2 of my 28 days of Fitness.  I am on a mission to get some weight off before my birthday!
The background is this....I had lost 17 lbs in the first 3 months of the year, all of that trampoline jumping worked.
And now I have found the 17 lbs again.....ugghhhh!   Why, oh why, can I not eat mexican food every weekend?

I am back on my "official" weight loss program that worked before.  And I know that I need to be accountable so this is where it is going to happen.

I did well today, went on a walk this morning, and another walk tonight.
I ate just right....the right amount at the right time.

I am prepared and ready to make it happen!

I will keep you posted.....what are you working on?

With purpose,

Trampoline!!

Happy Belated Christmas!
I trust that you are now in the clean up and prepare for 2008 mode, as I am.

I have signed up for my next weight loss journey and started running again to prepare for my next half-marathon in April of 2008.  As most of you know, I have run 4 marathons and many half-marathons but have fallen off the wagon over the last year.  OOOPSS!  So here we go ahead....as I learn that my body does like to move and it does make me feel better, think better, and look better!  Who would have known that all of the magazine articles were right?

But the best item that I purchased for myself right before Christmas was my new mini-trampoline.  Yes for $30 at Walmart, you too can join the jumping journey!! It is fun, and gets you moving in new directions.  That is what I always want.....to be moving in new directions in my life.  I want God to send me, where He needs me, not just where I am comfortable.   I want to "bounce" with life's challenges.  I want to "spring" forward with momentum.  OK, enough already....

As we sit on the edge of a new year, what are you waiting for?  What are your plans, hopes, dreams?  What are your goals?  Where are you moving?

Looking forward with delight!!

Diane

Friends and Family

Happy Thanksgiving!  I am writing with a full stomach after our family Thanksgiving in California.  Too many potatoes, pecan pie, and green bean casserole!
This is the first Thanksgiving that myself, and my 2 younger sisters, each had our husbands with us.
I have also had the privelege of being with my 2 neices Allison and Emily who are amazing.  What a delight for me to snuggle with Allison and hear her stories!
She will be turning 4 next week and Emily will be turning 1 in December.
As a woman who is not a mother, this is all new to me!  I find it to be amazing, frightening, and inspiring....but isn't that how life is supposed to be?

Now last week, I was at the beautiful Lake Tahoe with a rotating group of girl friends.  The week started with Sara and Lisa from my years at Whitworth College working as an Resident Assistant.  Sara now lives in Japan and Lisa lives in California while she is working at Stanford.  Then Sara's friend Jennie, a lawyer, arrived from Memphis.  And finally, my best friend Tandi arrived from Spokane, Washington to close out the week.  We shopped, ate, talked, laughed, watched movies, and had a fabulous time.  We decided that starting next year we will continue the tradition and host Girls Week trips for others.  Want to join us??

So this is what I know....that I need to eat less and move more starting next week, that I love seeing my friends and family, that I like having my husband here with me, and that it is good to rest!

And before I forget to mention it, we had the joy of seeing a live Bear twice last week.  Each night in Lake Tahoe the bears come to the dumpsters to eat their dinner.  This is amazing to watch and I did get a photo!

So.....with a grateful heart, and a full belly, I wish you a fabulous Thanksgiving!

Hula Hoop

I got myself a Hula Hoop tonight!  I know, isn't that funny?  My friend and fellow coach Kelly was laughing at me because she knows that I bought a jumprope about 2 months ago that got about 3 minutes of use.  I am hoping that I might be able to "hoop" while I am watching "Dancing with the Stars" and that the weight will fall off.  Hmm......what do you think?  I am also investigating a class called ZUMBA, any feedback on that?  See I know that I need to eat less, and exercise more, but the "doing" it seems to be a daily challenge.  God has been sending me people who are 'runners' to remind me that I need to be "RUNNING".  So here is my plan.  I am going to do a long run this Saturday the 27th.  SAY A PRAYER!

I will keep you posted on the Hula Hoop adventure too....

With purpose, and a smile!
